Why we are building SearchSync

Everyone in the search fund ecosystem is chasing the same piece of paper

Our team has sat in every seat of the search fund ecosystem: searcher, operator, and investor. Here is the problem we all share, and what we are building to solve it.

Ask anyone who has run a search, and they will know exactly what this feels like. You are deep in diligence on the best target you have seen all year, with a lawyer on one line and a quality-of-earnings provider on the other. You are also the person keeping your investors updated, managing your pipeline, and keeping the raise warm. In a search, you are the CEO, the analyst, the fundraiser, and the admin, often all at once.

As an investor, you are managing a diverse portfolio of operating companies and searchers. You are trying to understand the real value of that portfolio and your IRR across it, and, when tax season arrives, you are trying to close out your own return, which requires getting your K-1s to make it to the top of someone else's to-do list. So you track down each searcher, reach out, and usually follow up (likely more than once.)

As an operator, you are running the company you worked for years to acquire, managing a cap table that keeps changing, preparing for board updates, and handling the routine reporting your investors expect. Running the business and putting out the next fire keeps pushing these updates further down your list.

Three roles, three inboxes, one problem.

All three roles in search funds are part of a single connected system that everyone is forced to run as if it were disconnected. The searcher generates the K-1 the investor needs. The operator produces the marks the investor tracks. The report the searcher prepares feeds the report the investor is building for their LPs.

The timing matters, because this is a market on the rise.

The 2026 Stanford Search Fund Study reports new traditional launches sitting near all-time highs combined with a growing number of self funded searchers and long duration enterprises (LDEs). The performance has held up: close to half of recent searches end in an acquisition after a search of about twenty months, and as an asset class, search funds have returned nearly three times what the same capital would have earned in the S&P 500 over the same period. This is a growing space, it is performing well, and the signs point to it continuing to grow. A space like that deserves purpose-built, industry-grade infrastructure.

That is exactly what we set out to build, and we believe we are the right team to build it. We are a team of former searchers, current operators, active investors, and software product experts. We have sat in each of these seats ourselves and we have also partnered with some of the most trusted names in the search industry: Goodwin as our legal partner, and Spellbound Partners as our technical partner, leading our AI implementation.

We are building a single platform for the entire search ecosystem

Purpose-built tools and agents that handle fund administration, pipeline management, performance tracking, and reporting across searching, investing, and operating. It starts from a simple idea: put all three groups on shared infrastructure so information flows instead of being chased. When a searcher generates a K-1, the investor can pull it directly. When an operator updates the cap table, the marks show up where the investor already looks. The opportunity a searcher wants to share with investors for diligence can be worked on together in a shared data room, instead of tracked through emails and disparate drives.

We are excited to build SearchSync hand in hand with the search community, with our launch available to the public in fall 2026. We are already working with active searchers and investors who are helping us shape the product, ensuring that what we build is the tool the industry really needs. If you would like to hear more, you can book a demo. And if this is something you want to help build, we are looking for more early design partners, so you can sign up to join the beta and get early access to the product.

As the search ecosystem continues to grow and perform, we want to make sure the community has the tools to support that growth and to stay connected across every role.
